Weekly Newsletter - March 26, 2024

PROM

Who: All JCHS Juniors and Seniors are invited!
Where: The Hotel at Avalon
When: Saturday, April 13 from 7 PM-11 PM
Theme: Enchanted Garden
Cost: March 23 - March 27 $140

Juniors and Seniors use their FCS student ID's to purchase their ticket. If they would like to invite a JCHS underclassman, they will need to come get a code from Mrs. Dreyer in the counseling office. If they would like to invite someone from another school, they need to come grab a yellow guest form from the counseling suite or main office, have it filled out by their parents and school and submit it to Mrs. Dreyer in counseling. She will then vet the student and after doing so, will give a guest code for the date.

Here is the QR code for tickets:

HONOR ROLL TREATS

Join us in celebrating academic excellence and hard work! On Thursday, March 21st, during lunch, students who made the honor roll for the Fall semester were treated to a delicious reward: Aunt Annie's pretzel bites! Thanks to the dedication of our parent volunteers and the generosity of the PTSA, these tasty treats added an extra sprinkle of joy to our honored students' day. Here's to academic success and the sweet rewards it brings!

VOLUNTEERS

Beginning Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Fulton County Schools began utilizing the CheckMate Sign-In system to welcome visitors and volunteers into our schools. This has replaced the Raptor system. Despite feedback from office staff, the Volunteer Registration database did not roll over into the new system. Unfortunately, all school volunteers will need to re-register to assist with working in the office, attendance office, drama department, team meals, senior treats, Wellness Wednesday, senior carnival, chaperones, etc. Any task that will allow you to interact with students will require you to re-register. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is out of our hands. Please follow the link to access the FCS Volunteer Registration page.

Finally, all visitors must remember to bring in their driver's license each time they sign in. This is non-negotiable. The license will need to be scanned each time they come to the office. It will not hold onto the information like the other system. So, if you are coming in for a parent/counseling/teacher/administrator meeting, you must remember to bring your license. It can't be digital either.

Thank you for being patient as we implement this new safety procedure.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FRONT OFFICE

The Front Office is looking for a few additional volunteers.  The time commitment is as little as just 2-3 hours per month.  This is a low stress environment and a great way to be involved in our school.  The main responsibility would be answering the front door and checking in visitors.  You have the option of volunteering once per month, twice per month, or substituting when there is an opening.  If you'd like more information on this opportunity or interested in volunteering, please reach out to adminsupport@jchsptsa.com.

Is Your Child Ready for the New SAT?

Starting in 2024, the SAT is going from pen/paper to 100% digital. Students will be asked to bring in a wifi-enabled tablet or laptop on the test day. In addition, the question format has changed significantly. Instead of three sections of the test, there will be four stages, two for English and two for Math — and question difficulty will be determined algorithmically for each student.

It’s important to understand these changes and how they affect your child’s college admissions strategy. IvyMath is running a free course for Johns Creek families this month. They will cover:

  • Are standardized tests really optional for elite colleges?
  • ACT or digital SAT? How do the new changes affect your decision?
  • What is the SAT Bluebook App and how will it work on test day?
  • How to use the new countdown-clock and flagging features of the test
  • Study plan and homework recommendations for preparing for the new SAT

This free course is for both students and parents. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. At the end, we'll have an optional time for students to work through a practice exam in the new digital SAT format.

Please register quickly. This course is free, but there is limited space available for Spring dates: IvyMath.com/SATPrep
