JCHS PTSA Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship Winners

The JCHS PTSA is thrilled to announce three winners of the Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship. This scholarship focuses on community service. The winners of this scholarship demonstrated service to our school, the greater Atlanta community as well as service done on a national or international level.

The first winner of this year's Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship is Madeline Jaime. Madeline has dedicated herself to inspiring girls to pursue coding. As the president of the JCHS chapter of Girls Who Code, she mentored middle school girls and ultimately helped them start their own chapter of Girls Who Code. She has subsequently expanded her outreach to a summer coding course at a local library.

The next winner of the Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship is Lily Olander. Lily has devoted countless hours volunteering in our community, especially helping people in lower socioeconomic classes. She has developed an annual multi-neighborhood school supply initiative and plans to continue her service projects once she is in college.

Our third winner of the Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship is Abby Levit. Abby has dedicated her volunteer time to the Ronald McDonald House and Sunrise, a local nursing home. She found her volunteer activities interacting with people to be very rewarding.

Congratulations Madeline, Lily, and Abby!

PTSA Wellness

From PTSA Wellness Committee

We wanted to share with you, our JCHS parent community, that your PTSA Wellness Committee has already begun planning our wellness initiatives for 2020 - 2021. We met last Wednesday to brainstorm, and the theme that kept emerging was the physical, emotional, and financial stress that we are all facing amidst this pandemic.

From administration, faculty, and staff to parents, students, and family units, we are all struggling, and we believe, it is important for each of us to know that we are not alone in our struggle. We think this provides us with a unique community building opportunity that can increase our overall health and well-being, individually and collectively, IF we choose to show up for one another and allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to share our needs, and to lend a helping hand when we are able to do so.

Weekly Wellness Challenge

Reach out to 1-2 JCHS families that you haven’t been in contact with since school closed and ask them how they are REALLY doing? If you can’t lend a hand, then lend an ear.
